DCR Studios and DeMarcio: Creating the Glamour on Center Stage at Denver PRIDE

PRIDE started as a police raid; a riot really – in the early morning hours on June 28, 1969. What started as a fight for the right to be one’s true self and authentically human, has become a celebration of love and acceptance. PRIDE, often referred to as PRIDEFest, has grown into a safe space to love who we are as individuals, and embrace our unique community.

With the addition of some glitter, a few feathers and sequins – well, now we’ve got ourselves a party!

DeMarcio, the Emcee & Entertainment Coordinator of the Center Stage at Denver PRIDEFest, aims to motivate and inspire those in the audience who may feel different and alone. His goal is to reach into the hearts of those watching, and show them the juiciness which comes with a life fully lived. At its core, that is what PRIDEFest is: the opportunity to truly live authentically and showcase each person's unique identity.

Clothes help us do this too –
Fashion is for every body, and everybody’s different body. We all deserve the right to feel comfortable in our clothes. Fabric knows no gender beyond what we, as a society, apply to it. Each of us deserves to wear what makes us feel cute, sexy or strong… to feel our very best. We all have the commonality of wearing clothes, and a simple layer of fabric is the only thing between us and our environment. We must be able to navigate this environment with confidence – in all honesty, it’s difficult to have a bad day in a good pair of shoes.

This exhibit celebrates all of the forementioned, and the joy clothing brings to the PRIDE movement. Let us never forget that self-expression includes being able to dress and present ourselves in the fabric of life that best suits each and every one of us. Fashion is for every body, and everybody’s different body.

In addition to the fashion showcased in the exhibition, take a moment to watch "From Prohibited to Proud: The History of Drag in Denver," a film from the Denver Office of Storytelling featuring Denver’s own Yvie Oddly which will be looped as part of the exhibit. Created in 2019, this film shares stories of Denver's LGBTQ and drag queen community, entertaining Denver crowds for generations in spite of any personal risk.

PRIDE comenzó como una redada policial (de hecho, realmente un motín) en las primeras horas de la mañana del 28 de junio de 1969. Lo que comenzó como una lucha por el derecho a ser uno mismo y auténticamente humano, se ha convertido en una celebración del amor y la aceptación. PRIDE, a menudo denominado PRIDEFest, se ha convertido en un espacio seguro para amar quiénes somos como individuos y abrazar a nuestra comunidad única.

Con la adición de un poco de brillo, algunas plumas y lentejuelas, bueno, ¡ahora tenemos una fiesta!

DeMarcio, el maestro de ceremonias y coordinador de entretenimiento del Center Stage en Denver PRIDEFest, tiene como objetivo motivar e inspirar a aquellos en la audiencia que pueden sentirse diferentes y solos. Su objetivo es llegar a los corazones de los que miran y mostrarles la jugosidad que viene con una vida vivida plenamente. En esencia, eso es lo que es PRIDEFest: la oportunidad de vivir auténticamente y mostrar la identidad única de cada persona.

La ropa también nos ayuda a hacer esto.

La moda es para todos los cuerpos, y para todos los cuerpos diferentes. Todos merecemos el derecho a sentirnos cómodos con nuestra ropa. La tela no conoce género más allá de lo que nosotros, como sociedad, le aplicamos. Cada uno de nosotros merece usar lo que nos hace sentir lindos, sexys o fuertes... para sentirnos lo mejor posible. Todos tenemos el punto en común de usar ropa, y una simple capa de tela es lo único que nos separa de nuestro entorno. Debemos poder navegar en este entorno con confianza. Con toda honestidad, es difícil tener un mal día con un buen par de zapatos.

Esta exhibición celebra todo lo mencionado anteriormente y la alegría que la ropa trae al movimiento PRIDE. No olvidemos nunca que la autoexpresión incluye poder vestirnos y presentarnos en el tejido de la vida que mejor se adapte a todos y cada uno de nosotros.

Además de la moda que se muestra en la exhibición, tómese un momento para ver "From Prohibited to Proud: The History of Drag in Denver" (De Prohibido al Orgullo: La historia del drag en Denver), una película de la Oficina de Narraciones de Denver con la propia Yvie Oddly de Denver que se presenta continuamente como parte de la exhibición. Creada en 2019, esta película comparte historias de la comunidad LGBTQ y drag queen de Denver, entreteniendo a las multitudes de Denver durante generaciones a pesar de cualquier riesgo personal.
