Jazz for the Schools is an interactive jazz series that provides an educational and musical experience for Denver area students, many of whom have never had the opportunity to be inspired by the sound of live jazz music. Held at the Crossroads Theater in the historic Five Points District of Denver since the 2011-12 school year, the program supports key Colorado State Music Education curriculum standards. The program is expanding in the 2016-17 school year to include presentations at the schools and at McNichols Civic Center Building.
Each presentation involving jazz history, musical techniques and performance is presented by local, regional or international jazz artists. Presenters are chosen based on their ability to provide an entertaining and knowledgeable presentation designed to captivate and engage a young audience.
The Jazz for the Schools program supports the Gift of Jazz mission of moving this important genre forward and securing its future with the next generation.
